Your data

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 2026. In short: transcription and translation happen on your phone, and your recordings leave it only if you decide so.

Text to be reviewed before going live. It describes how the app currently works and must stay aligned with it as it evolves.

Who is responsible?

Jean-Charles PAMART, sole trader, publisher of Transcriphone (contact details in the legal notice). Contact for any question about your data: contact@transcriphone.com.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics tools and no external resources (no fonts, scripts or videos from third parties). Your theme (light or dark) and language choices are stored only in your browser and are never transmitted.

Like any host, OVH keeps technical connection logs of the server (IP address, date, requested page) for security and proper operation.

The Android app

Your recordings, transcripts, translations, photos and videos are stored on your phone. Transcription and translation are done on the device: your voice is sent to no one, unless you choose to share it, email it or use AI transcription (see below).

The app asks for the following permissions, only for the matching feature:

  • Microphone: to record (including in the background, with a notification);
  • Camera: to take photos and videos to attach to a recording;
  • Notifications: to show the recording and playback in progress;
  • Biometrics: to unlock the app by fingerprint or face (the PIN remains available);
  • Internet: sending emails, AI transcription and downloading models (below);
  • Battery optimisation: asking not to be interrupted during a recording.

Downloads. The French engine is built into the app. The multilingual engine is downloaded once from the Hugging Face hosting service, and each translation language once through Google's ML Kit. No recording is transmitted during these downloads, but the servers involved see, as with any download, the IP address of your connection. Google may receive technical information related to the use of ML Kit; see its privacy policy.

The app may also check for an update through Google Play.

The app contains no advertising and no third-party audience measurement tool.

Sending by email

With the default server, the message (recipients, audio, text, photos and videos if you attach them) is sent over an encrypted connection to our service, which forwards it to the recipients you chose. The content is not kept by our service. A technical server log records the IP address, the date, the number of recipients and the size of the message, never its content.

With your own SMTP server, the password stays in your phone's hardware-backed keystore and is never sent to us; the message does not go through our servers.

AI transcription

The free plan includes 1 minute of AI transcription, the full version 30 minutes, then extra time packs. This transcription acts only when you tap the matching button: the recording is then sent, over an encrypted connection, to our server, which passes it to an artificial-intelligence transcription service run by a provider (Mistral AI, a French company) to obtain the text. Our server keeps neither the audio nor the text; its technical log only notes the date, the IP address, the size and the number of characters. The provider processes the file under its own terms (see its privacy policy). Do not use this feature for recordings you do not want to leave your phone.

To be completed: the counting of AI time used (free plan, 30 minutes, packs) and purchases through Google Play are not yet described here; they will be as soon as this tracking is in place.

Legal basis

These processing operations are necessary to provide the service you use (email sending, AI transcription) and for our legitimate interest in securing the service and preventing abuse.

Data sharing

No data is sold or passed on for advertising. The only technical third parties are the website host (OVH), the model download services mentioned above, the mail servers that deliver your emails and, if you use AI transcription, the transcription provider (Mistral AI).

Your rights

You may request access to, correction or deletion of your data, object to its processing or ask for it to be restricted, by writing to contact@transcriphone.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr), or with your local authority.
